Data Processor Field Systems Operator (100% Travel) GEOSPATIAL INTERN (UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII)

Summary of the Position

The data processor position involves analyzing, classifying, and processing many different datasets that may include digital imagery, pavement, and LiDAR. Tasks may include, but are not limited to visual analysis, editing and extracting data, performing measurements, and updating databases. The processor is held accountable for meeting established project metrics while maintaining quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Process project data according to established procedures and guidelines
  • Consistently meet performance metrics established by the project manager
  • Inform the team leader when issues are identified
  • Accurately track and record daily activities

Requirements

  • Obtain an advanced understanding of Roadview software packages, MS Office, and any necessary custom processing applications within six months of start date
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide within all units of measure
  • Provide a high level of attention to detail while carrying out written and oral instructions
  • Apply critical thinking skills to solve problems related to project specifics
  • Communicate effectively with all members of a project

Field Systems Operator (100% Travel)

Summary of the Position

Interested in working for an industry leader in specialized highway data collection and the integration of 3D pavement technology, LiDAR, and geospatial data collection equipment?

Digilog (subsidiary of Mandli Communications) is hiring entry level full-time Field System Operators. This is a great opportunity to gain hands on experience with some of the most advanced GPS, Remote Sensing and GIS equipment in the market while:

  • Being responsible for driving company vehicles and operating cutting-edge mobile mapping collection equipment to gather quality and accurate data of roadways and their features
  • Navigating through unfamiliar areas, sometimes under adverse traffic conditions, while maintaining strict safety standards and maintaining proper data collection methods
  • Working with support representatives to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise in the field
  • 100% travel within the United States with deployments averaging 8-12 weeks in duration

Primary Responsibilities

Field System Operators are responsible for driving and operating company vehicles and data collection systems to collect good and accurate data of roadways and their features in a timely manner in accordance with company guidelines by performing the following duties. Field System Operators are accountable for performing tasks in a timely manner and maintaining quality standards when assisting various Production departments while at our headquarters.

Activities Supporting Data Collection

  • Operate mobile data collection vehicle in a responsible manner consistent with training and local laws and regulations
  • Operate data collection systems within the vehicle to ensure good and accurate data collection of roadways and their features
  • Navigate through unfamiliar areas, sometimes under adverse traffic conditions, all while maintaining strict safety standards and maintaining proper data collection methods
  • Assist in route planning through the use of maps and other navigational tools

Activities Supporting Vehicle / System Maintenance

  • Provide basic maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle in a manner consistent with company policy throughout the duration of deployment
  • Immediately report all accidents/damage/malfunctions to management

Activities Supporting Communication / Reporting

  • Work with support representative to efficiently troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise in the field
  • Maintain and organize a daily, legible logbook of data collected and submit to Data Collection Technician as required
  • Accurately record all relevant project metrics and expenditures while deployed in the field
  • Maintain regular contact with supervisor or project team to keep them informed of project status, issues, or significant field events

  • Maintain a professional manner and appearance at all times to enhance the company’s image
  • Work with supervisor and project team to develop best practices that will lead to better achieving or exceeding project goals

Qualifications

Specialized Knowledge/Skills and Other Requirements

  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Education/Experience

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required. Preferred fields of study include geography, GIS, geosciences or STEM.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid Driver’s License required for travel to job sites, client and vendor locations within the United States.

Other Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Willing to undergo a pre-employment drug test
  • Clean driving record

The employee is frequently, up to 100% of the time, required to have the additional specific vision abilities required by this job to include peripheral vision (defined as the ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (defined as three-dimensional vision, and the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and distance vision (defined as clear vision at 20 feet or more, respectively, all while driving a vehicle or being a passenger in a moving vehicle. Activities occasionally occur outdoors.

Travel Requirements

This position requires 75%-100% travel within the United States of America, via air or road travel in a car, van or truck.

GEOSPATIAL INTERN (UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII)

Summary of the Position

We are seeking motivated individuals for the position of Geospatial Intern. This position is part of an internship program between Mandli Communications and the University of Hawaii. The Geospatial Intern will be responsible for assisting in the creation of data collection system validation sites, the collection, and processing of validation site datasets, and operating company vehicles and data collection systems to collect geospatial data of roadways and asset features throughout Hawaii. As a company that prides itself on the use and integration of technology, ideal candidates will have a strong interest in the application of technology and geographic information systems.

Primary Responsibilities

Learning Outcomes:

  • The operation of advanced technology; including LiDAR, camera arrays, and the Laser Crack Measurement System (LCMS)
  • The management and examination of large GIS datasets
  • Project management, logistics planning, and route optimization
  • Operation of a highly-accurate geospatial system

Job Duties:

  • Operate mobile data collection vehicle and data collection systems
  • Assist in review and analysis of data to ensure quality standards are met
  • Collaborate with company personnel to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise in the field
  • Assist with in-field setup of sites to validate the performance of data collection 
systems
  • Accurately survey and record validation site quality control and reference features
  • Operate data collection systems to collect validation site datasets for analysis and reporting

Qualifications

Required:

  • Enrolled as a student at the University of Hawaii
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Completion of Mandli’s driver certification program
  • Completion of company drug test
  • Available for 10-20 hours per week November-March

Preferred:

  • Pursuing a degree in Geography, GIS, Geosciences or STEM
